From the front, the Alhambra looks almost car-like, with the SEAT design language loud and proud with the arrowhead front grille leading into a long bonnet for this class.
The raked windscreen leads into that deceptively long body and an angled shoulder, together with heavily contoured sides, helps conceal its bulk and gives it a low-slung look despite its generous proportions.
Faux vents at the front even give the Alhambra a sporting attitude, although the sliding door on the side gives the game away. From the outside, though, you'd struggle to believe you could fit so many people in this Tardis of a car.
This is the critical point for an MPV and the SEAT Alhambra scores big with luxurious, comfortable seats that take seven people in absolute comfort. Anybody with a big family that needs to move big loads will love the seven-seat interior with a back that folds flat.
The Alhambra doubles as a van and the 2,297-litre load lugging space with the seats folded has to be seen to be believed.
A simple, elegant dashboard can be specced with an optional touchscreen system to control the radio and MP3-based sound system with eight speakers. If you opt for the SE Lux model and up, leather trim, a DAB digital sound system and a reversing camera come as standard.
With the facelift model in 2015, SEAT introduced a 1.4-litre turbo engine to the line-up to make the Alhrambra an even better value proposition. It comes with 148 bhp, which is enough for most families.
You can still go for the perennial favourite, the two-litre diesel, which has 182 bhp and a healthy dose of torque to haul the weight of a fully-loaded MPV away from traffic lights. The diesel, when ordered in S trim, is the cheapest offering too. As it returns an impressive 57 mpg, this is the one to opt for if you're thinking about running costs.
Spend a little more and you can opt for the convenience of Volkswagen's patented DSG semi-automatic gearbox and you won't have to worry about a clutch pedal again. An electronically operated rear sliding door and tailgate are on the options list, too, which is a novelty that won't wear off quickly!
The new SEAT Alhambra has a five-star Euro NCAP crash testing result to its name, so you can rely on the car to keep you safe in the event of a collision. It has seven airbags, too, the sliding doors come with child locks and there are mounts for child seats.
You get front and rear parking sensors, whichever model you order. You can also select SEAT's system for spotting how tired you are; the car will sound an alert if it detects you may nod off at the wheel to recommend taking a break.
