As a Nissan owner, you rely on your key fob for easy access to your vehicle. However, the battery in your key fob will eventually need to be replaced. Fortunately, changing a Nissan key fob battery is a straightforward process that you can do yourself. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you out.
Before you start, make sure you have the following tools on hand:
Most Nissan key fobs have a mechanical key hidden inside. To access it, flip the key fob over and look for a small release button. Press this button and pull out the mechanical key.
Your key may differ slightly to the image shown, however removing the mechanical key should be straight forward.
With the mechanical key removed, you’ll notice a small slot or seam along the edge of the key fob. Insert the flathead screwdriver or plastic pry tool into this slot. Gently twist the tool to pry the key fob open. Be careful not to use too much force, as you could damage the plastic casing.
Once the key fob is open, you’ll see the old battery sitting in place. Take note of the battery’s orientation before removing it. Using the screwdriver or pry tool, gently lift the battery out of its compartment.
Take your new CR2025 or CR2032 battery and insert it into the compartment. Make sure the positive (+) side is facing up, just like the old battery. Press down gently to ensure the battery is securely in place.
Carefully align the two halves of the key fob casing and press them together until they snap into place. Make sure there are no gaps and that the casing is securely closed.
Insert the mechanical key back into its slot. Test your key fob by pressing the buttons to make sure they’re working properly. If everything is functioning as expected, you’ve successfully replaced your Nissan key fob battery!
By following these steps, you can easily replace the battery in your Nissan key fob, ensuring it remains functional and reliable. If you encounter any issues, consult your owner's manual or contact a professional for assistance.
